Because a number of Spaniards arrived at Liverpool at more or less the same time, it was natural that we would end up spending a lot of time together and become good friends. We needed the same things and had similar experiences, so we helped each other out and chatted about how things were going.

It is nice to have that support network but one of the striking things about Liverpool is how well everyone gets on - all of us, not just the Spanish players. There's a great atmosphere and everyone was really welcoming. Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard, who are both from Liverpool, were especially helpful and so was Sammy Hyppia. They told us all about the city and the club; they took us out and showed as around and have become firm friends.

Everyone speaks English at Liverpool. Rafa Benítez won't let us speak Spanish, which helps us to integrate better. I was lucky because I already spoke English before I came. At first I took classes but as I spoke a bit already, I decided I was better off just talking to people and immersing myself in the city. It's worked pretty well, although there are times when I struggle. Speaking English and speaking Scouse are very different things! Sometimes understanding Carra be almost impossible but I'm getting better … bit by bit!

Welcome back, Robbie. It came as a surprise for Liverpool to re-sign Robbie Fowler but I think his return to Anfield is very good news for the team, the club, and the fans - and for him, of course. He can offer so much: he is determined, his movement inside the penalty area is exceptional and he has a real nose for goal. He can compliment Peter Crouch , Fernando Morientes or Djibril Cisse and he will get chances. Robbie hasn't come as a bit-part player.

I've seen him play a lot, especially during his first spell here when he was part of that wonderfully talented generation of players. He was one of the best strikers in Europe, scoring goal after goal with such precise, first-time finishes.

He's also a lovely guy. I already knew him before he signed, having met him a few times through mutual friends like Steve McManaman. He's very Scouse, very much a Liverpool lad and that depth of feeling towards the club is one of the most important qualities he can bring us. Stevie G and Carra are delighted to have him back and so are the fans. They've always loved him - the reception they gave him was incredible.

People often ask me how important Rafa Benítez was in my decision to join Liverpool and the answer is simple: fundamental. His determination to sign me and the confidence he placed in me were vital - I knew things would be far easier for me with a coach that knew me well and that had made such an effort to include me in his plans. He explained to me what he expected from me, what I could expect from the club and he really convinced me that coming to Anfield was the right move. I also knew him from his time at Valencia, of course, where he had won two league titles and the UEFA Cup in just three seasons.

I would define him as a perfectionist. He's very methodical, very thorough, and has a keen eye for the tiniest details. He analyses the opposition, and his own team, very closely indeed. He's a big part of the reason that we won the European Cup. He was very important at pivotal moments and throughout the campaign with his decisions and tactical game plans. To take a club to the European Cup in your first season in charge is a huge, huge achievement - and one that surprised everyone. Everyone respects him, they all love him in Liverpool, and there's no at all doubt that he deserves it.
